GENERAL AIMS

To employ pragmatically the general urban and planning theories to specific project contexts.

To understand urban complexity through multidisciplinary approach to its structural elements, functions, geographical and territorial base.

CONTEXT
The signature will run in the second semester of the fourth year.

STUDY MODE

To plan and project new urban expansion areas mainly focused on the residential function, but provided of all the components and functions which can assure urban complexity, variety and social biodiversity.

To acquire professional sense of responsibility, initiative and flexibility as key factors for the action in the planning process.

To mature the capacity to empathize with current social dynamics and their influence in the urban environment and life style.

To tune the capacity to plan and project integrated public spaces, linked with the urban green areas and corridors of the whole city.

To dominate the maim planning administrative instruments and figures, with a wide understanding of their sense, justification, and implementation options.

To communicate properly the acquired knowledge of the urban reality and its influence on the human behaviour.

ACHIEVMENTS

Structured proposal capacity: to be able to elaborate strategic actions within a integrated urban planning framework referred to the city as a whole.

Understanding of the relationships and interdependencies between the city and its surrounding territory.

Basic understanding of the main social and economical processes which take place and interact in the urban environment.

Understanding of the ecological processes which take place in the urban environment and the city ecological footprint and interaction with the natural environment.

Consciousness of the environmental responsibility of planning and capacity to employ the sustainability principles and parameters in the planning and project process.

Capacity to recognize and define the structural elements of the urban environment and to distinguish their morphological features.

Capacity to define city planning tools and the management procedures for their implementation.

TOPICS

Territorial integration of the urban dynamics and processes:

To frame the urban structures in the natural atrophied ecosystem.

The landscape issues at different scales and their interaction with the urban structures.

The structural, social and economic systems in the urban space.

The city as the sum of five main functions: mobility, dwellings, production, green space, equipments. The concept of centrality.

Sustainability criteria applied to the urban space.

Integrate planning tools from the territorial to the urban scale: strategic proposals, planning, urban and architectural projects.

Work in groups and coral activities (1 ECTS)

Individual works and exercises (4 ECTS)

Collective analysis and discussion of the of the student’s proposals progress and of the intermediate given exercises (1 ECTS).
