Sociology and Deontology of Sport

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This module is taught in the first year of Sport Sciences.

CONTEXT

This module analyzes the transformation from modern to contemporary sport. It explains why sport nature has changed from an elitist activity of specific social groups into a general social trend linked to professional work and organization structures.

 SPECIFIC SKILLS:

Capacity to devise, develop and evaluate teaching-learning processes related to physical activity and sports, bearing in mind the characteristics and circumstances of each individual and assuming the necessary educational, technical and curricular principles.

Capacity to transmit attitudes and values as a working professional in all fields of physical activity and sport, participating in the improvement of society.

Capacity to plan, program, apply, control and evaluate training and competition processes at their different levels and for different age groups.

Capacity to analyze and apply physiological, biomechanical, psychological and social principles to the different fields of physical activity, sport and recreation.

Capacity to identify unsuitable practices that pose a health risk, in order to avoid them and correct them in the different types of population.

Capacity to assess fitness levels and motor skills, prescribing and programming physical exercises geared towards health at different ages.

ACTIVITIES

Different tasks about the use and interpretation of statistical data, ethnographical studies and document analysis.

Debates, group  and individual tasks.


EVALUATION

The acquisition of skills will be continually assessed along the whole module. More specifically, taking into account the results of different tasks and tests.

Home work and/or project 25-40%

Debates and presentations 10-25%

Tests 40-50%

The assessment will be presented in a numerical mark, from 0 to 10.

METHODOLOGY

Use of active methodologies: Case Method, puzzle, oral presentation and use of different information and communication technologies.
