COURSE DESCRIPTION

Activities in natural environments are those developed in a non or cute man-modified environment, and just man-inhabited, that normally require the learning of special abilities and techniques.

This subject shows students this main activities (as trekking, mountain biking, climbing, potholing, etc.)  and the basic techniques and requirements to carry out them properly and safely.

CONTEXT

Direct contact with nature and open spaces, is increasing its importance day by day, as it receives innumerable values and has a marked influence in integral children and society development, especially instructive and relevant in personality.

Nature environments bring out our best, and become a top educative procedure and method: at natural spaces, mountains, rivers, we can feel relaxed, free and happy and unleash creativity, imagination and try thousands of games.

In recent years, search and the need for new sensations, escaping, breaking from the routine and daily stress, has done of these, one of the most requested activities by society regardless of the age and physical condition. So, it has come to a professional area for new graduates.

The environment and animals care and respect, should be instilled since early childhood. This will result in more responsible adults in the future and with a higher environmental awareness. From this subject, these values and attitude are communicated and also lived.

ACTIVITIES

BEGINING COURSE: Groups Management and Leading in Mountain walks and trekkings (October) 

1)      Trekking to Maliciosa (Madrid)

2)      Work in groups and coordination between groups. 

ORIENTEERING: USE OF MAP AND COMPASS (November)

1)      Basic use of topographic map and compass during an orienteering activity in Natural spaces.

2)      Adapt the movements to the terrain.

GROUPS MANAGEMENT AND LEADING IN MOUNTAIN BIKE JOURNEYS AND ACTIVITIES (April)

1)      Control and leading of the groups when cycling in open and wild spaces.

2)      Ability of planning and overcome technical and complicated steps keeping the group controlled.

3)      Adapt the movements and the cycling to different terrains and paths.

GROUPS MANAGEMENT AND LEADING IN CAVING (March)

1)      Move properly inside caves and deep fisures.

2)      Ability of planning and overcome technical and complicated steps keeping the control of the group.

3)      Adapt the movements to the terrain.

4)      Basic techniques of abseiling and climbing with help of ropes.

GROUPS MANAGEMENT AND LEADING IN MOUNTAIN EXCURSIONS STAYING THE NIGHT OUT (VIBOUAC) (April)

1)       Control and leading of groups in open and wild spaces.

2)      Ability of planning and overcome technical and complicated steps keeping the group controlled.

3)      Adapt the movements to different terrains and paths.

4)      Find a proper place to spend the night out

 

BASICS TECHNIQUES OF ORIENTEERING: USE OF GPS (May). 

1)      Learn to use a GPS: geocaching, geographic coordinates, finding points, tracks.

2)      Work in groups.

3)      Use of maps together with GPS

SPECIALL SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES IN WINTER MOUNTAINEERING (January).

1)       Control and leading of groups in mountains under winter conditions.

2)      Ability of planning and overcome technical and complicated steps keeping the group controlled.

3)      Adapt the movements to different terrains and paths.

4)      Use of special devices: piolet, crampons, arness, ropes, etc.


EVALUATION

Continuous Evaluation will be used to assess Students´ knowledge and skills´ level acquired. To achieve the global marks, the following procedure methods´ in particular, are used:

 

The assessment process ends up with the appreciation and recognition of the level of academic achievement, reflected in the marks document, according to the current legislation.
