CONTEXT

The subject of Orthotics and Prosthetics is a quarterly subject that is taught in the fourth year of the Degree in Physiotherapy. During this course students learn about the different orthotic and prosthetic devices, and its usefulness.

q  Overview: history, concepts, classification, materials.

q  Cervical Orthoses: Pathology cervical biomechanics. Collars. Pillows. Drives.

q  Deviations of the spine: Kyphosis: Enf. Scheuermann. Etiology, symptomatology, exploration. Orthotic treatment.

q  Deviations of the spine: scoliosis: etiology, classification, pathology, exploration. Bracing for infantile scoliosis. Corsets: Milwaukee brace, Boston, Charleston, Michel, Chêneau, Lyonnes. Method F.E.D. Cotrel table.

q  Thoracic deformities: Pectus carinatum. Pectus excavatum.

q  Back painful. Back pain. Lumbalgia. Classification. Shapewear. Corsets.

q  Lower limb orthoses: Hip: LCC and Perthes, Knee: genuvalgum and Genu varum. Congenital Foot, metatarsus varus clubfoot.

q  Deformed foot orthoses and / or painful. Metatarsalgia, heel pain, hallux valgus, hallux rigidus, hammertoes.

q  Orthosis in traumatic pathology fractures, soft tissue injury.

q  Bracing for neurological disorders. Anti-equinus.

q  Personal Mobility Aids. Wheelchairs. Sitting Criteria.

q  Antidecubitus aids.

q  Assistive technology.

q  Amputation: Problems. Physiotherapy

q  Prosthesis: Lower extremity, amputation levels. Prosthetic components. Gait biomechanics.
